Experiences gained during Practicum

During my Practicum at S.K.Alam Megah I had a rare opportunity to be the MC for an assembly on Monday the first week of August. It was in the capacity of a replacement teacher for the ‘guru bertugas’ who was away. It was such a daunting experience as I had to make sure the pupils were paying attention to me, not forgetting the fact that I had to live up to the expectation of the other teachers as well, especially the PK. I had do give a short speech on some issues for the week and since it was exam week I just spoke about cleanliness, punctuality and revision. Did my best but it could have been better. Nevertheless, I have taken it as a good learning experience which will further enable more self improvement.

I had a great time in SBE, the ones that make you feel more motivated and thankful you are in the teaching profession. Though I know things may seemed picture perfect at first, but I always like to built the positive side and always look upon it when things become hard.

Although being in a different race school, amazingly I don't seemed to mind it at all. I rather love the change and welcome the children as children , not as someone different in race and culture. And as for them, they welcome me as me, which was twice as wonderful. The younger children seemed more welcoming and they often visits us during recess to get to know us.

The teachers are most helpful, always with smiles and a helping hand. I watched as the students observed their daily routine in school and their tradition and religion. As my school is in the rural area, that is SJK(T) Ladang Rinching, Semenyih, the world doesn't seemed to touch them at all. Although they are mostly average and poor, they are not sad or worried. They live life normally, happy and cheerful, they even like school. Maybe the living standards are not too high thus make the life easier eventhough the parents do not earn much. The parents also seemed to care of the students achievements in school.

But every schools' backbone is the principle. I am proud that the principle is an Indian Muslim . He had brought the school up from nothing to its glorious time now to a Grade A school for rural areas SJKT schools. This shows that education goes beyond any boundaries of religion, culture or any difference that we may hold. It shows that the future generation is the upmost imptortant. This shows that he is a true teacher. The rare ones these days.

So, I had a boost of confidence from my SBE to become a GREAT teacher. Thus, now eventhough I have approximately 15 assigments to submit after the holidays, it is by no means a bed of roses...but I know deep in my heart that it is 15 step closer to become a GREAT teacher!

Dear friends,

How's everybody doing? Hope everything is well in your respective practicum school. I am now in SKPP 14 (1), Putrajaya. It's a new school, officially started its operation June last year. The school administration and teachers here are very helpful. My friends and i are welcomed into its family and we're doing quite ok.

Here are some pictures that i managed to take. Some are in classroom (5 Hamka) where i have been assigned to teach English language. Some were taken during the officiating ceremony of Bulan Kecergasan & Kesenian where i was the MC.

Hope to hear from you guys soon. Do share your experience too.
